My Experience Speaks for Me

A headshot of Liz Wooten, a smiling therapist with warm brown eyes and shoulder-length brown hair. She is wearing a professional blouse and has a friendly expression.

I’ve been a Board-Certified Counselor for over four years, with a Master’s in Clinical Counseling from Webster University. My work has been all about understanding the brain, especially within the neurodiverse community. Right now, I’m taking it even further by pursuing a doctorate in Behavioral Neuroscience.

But let’s get real—degrees are only part of the story. With nearly 14 years of hands-on experience, combined with my own neurodiverse lived experience, I’ve gained a deep understanding of what truly helps. I began my mental health journey supporting kids and families in the Autistic community, both one-on-one and in group settings. That’s where I discovered my passion for helping people embrace their uniqueness, rather than trying to fit into neurotypical molds.

This led me to career counseling, focusing on empowering Autistic individuals to thrive in their professional lives. As I transitioned into my role as a therapist, my focus remained on neurodiversity and trauma. During the height of COVID-19, I worked in ERs, providing crisis support across diverse populations, including those in neurodiverse communities. I don’t just know the theory—I’ve lived it.

If you’re looking for someone who understands, who’s been there, and who’s ready to help you move forward, I’m here. Together, we can make the changes that truly matter to you.

What to Expect in ADHD Therapy: A Personalized Approach

Unlocking Your Potential: What to Expect in ADHD Therapy

Hey, if you’re feeling like your brain is always racing or you keep hopping from one thing to the next without getting much done, you’re not alone. ADHD can make everyday tasks feel like a juggling act, and it’s exhausting. But here’s the thing—ADHD therapy isn’t about changing who you are. It’s about embracing the way your mind works and finding ways to use that unique energy to your advantage. In my ADHD therapy sessions, we’ll get into the details of how ADHD shows up in your life. Maybe it’s those racing thoughts, feeling hyper-focused at times, or getting frustrated with little things. Together, we’ll work through it. Here’s what you can expect:
  • Understanding Your ADHD: We’ll explore how ADHD is impacting different parts of your life—whether it’s at work, in your relationships, or just trying to get through the day. The goal here is to recognize your strengths and turn what feels like challenges into opportunities for growth.
  • Creating a Personalized Toolkit: We’re not about one-size-fits-all solutions. We’ll come up with strategies that actually work for you—whether it’s managing impulsivity, sharpening your focus, or finding better ways to organize your life.
  • Silencing the Inner Critic: ADHD often brings along a pretty harsh inner voice. You know, that one that likes to make you second-guess yourself? We’ll work on quieting that critic and building up your self-confidence, so you can trust in your abilities.
  • Turning Goals into Reality: Setting goals when you have ADHD can feel overwhelming, but we’ll break things down into manageable steps. Each small win is a victory, and you’ll start to see progress toward your bigger dreams.
  • Celebrating Your Uniqueness: ADHD isn’t a flaw—it’s just a different way of thinking. We’ll celebrate that uniqueness and use it to help you navigate life with confidence and clarity.
Therapy isn’t just about problem-solving. It’s about creating a space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered every step of the way. Whether you’re coming to see me in my cozy South St. Louis County office or joining virtually through online therapy, I’m here to walk with you through your ADHD journey. Ready to take the next step? Beyond the Buzz: Understand the Real Impact of ADHD

When people think of ADHD, they often imagine someone who’s just hyperactive or can’t sit still, but it’s so much more than that. Living with ADHD can feel like your mind is always buzzing, full of ideas yet never fully able to settle. It affects everything—your emotions, your relationships, and even your overall well-being. And that’s the reality many of my clients live with every day.

Let me introduce you to a few of them (names changed for privacy). These stories show just how varied and unique ADHD can be:

    • Emily’s Emotional Rollercoaster: Emily feels like she’s constantly on a high or a low, with no in-between. One minute she’s on top of the world, and the next, she’s overwhelmed by sadness. Together, we explored how ADHD influences her emotions and found some practical coping strategies to help her find more balance.
    • Jake’s Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD): Jake constantly worries about what people think of him. A simple comment from a coworker can send him spiraling into self-doubt and anxiety. Through therapy, we worked on recognizing and managing his RSD—a common experience for those with ADHD—using calming techniques that really help him feel more in control.
    • Sara’s Relationship Struggles: Sara’s ADHD affects her relationships. She tends to interrupt conversations and forget important dates, which leaves her loved ones feeling neglected. We’ve been focusing on improving her communication skills and strengthening her connections with family and friends.
    • Ben’s Unlocked Creativity: Ben is full of creative ideas, but he struggles with turning them into action. Together, we’ve worked on channeling his creativity into actual projects, so he feels more empowered and less overwhelmed by the whirlwind of thoughts.
  • Sophia’s Support Network: Sophia often feels like people don’t understand her struggles with ADHD. Through our work together, we’ve built a strong support system for her, helping her advocate for herself both at home and at work, so she no longer feels alone.

ADHD is more than just a challenge—it’s an opportunity to discover your unique strengths. In therapy, we’ll focus on celebrating those strengths, embracing the creativity that makes you, you, and building a life that feels authentic to who you are. Whether you’re dealing with rejection sensitivity, emotional ups and downs, or relationship challenges, we’ll work through it together.
