My Experience Speaks for Me.

A headshot of Liz Wooten, a smiling therapist with warm brown eyes and shoulder-length brown hair. She is wearing a professional blouse and has a friendly expression.

I’ve been a Board-Certified Counselor for over four years, with a Master’s in Clinical Counseling from Webster University. My work has been all about understanding the brain, especially within the neurodiverse community. Right now, I’m taking it even further by pursuing a doctorate in Behavioral Neuroscience.

But let’s get real—degrees are only part of the story. With nearly 14 years of hands-on experience, combined with my own neurodiverse lived experience, I’ve gained a deep understanding of what truly helps. I began my mental health journey supporting kids and families in the Autistic community, both one-on-one and in group settings. That’s where I discovered my passion for helping people embrace their uniqueness, rather than trying to fit into neurotypical molds.

This led me to career counseling, focusing on empowering Autistic individuals to thrive in their professional lives. As I transitioned into my role as a therapist, my focus remained on neurodiversity and trauma. During the height of COVID-19, I worked in ERs, providing crisis support across diverse populations, including those in neurodiverse communities. I don’t just know the theory—I’ve lived it.

If you’re looking for someone who understands, who’s been there, and who’s ready to help you move forward, I’m here. Together, we can make the changes that truly matter to you.

Our Personalize Approach to ADHD Testing

At Enlitens Counseling in St. Louis, I know that no two people experience ADHD the same way. That’s why the ADHD testing I offer is all about you. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here—we dive deep into understanding your strengths, your challenges, and how ADHD uniquely shows up in your life. My goal is simple: to give you accurate insights and personalized support, tailored just for you.

How We Tailor ADHD Testing for You

We use a mix of evidence-based tools to give you a comprehensive picture of your ADHD profile. Here’s a breakdown of the tools I use and how they help us understand your unique experience:

    • Brown EF/A Scales: This tool gives us a peek into your executive functioning, like your ability to organize, focus, and manage emotions. It helps us see how ADHD impacts your daily life—from work to relationships. Learn more here.
    • Connors Rating Scales: This is where we get perspectives from multiple angles. Whether it’s input from you, parents, teachers, or others in your life, the Connors Rating Scales help us see how ADHD affects you across different settings, like work, school, or home.
    • Vanderbilt ADHD Rating Scales: This scale takes it a step further, helping us assess how ADHD impacts your social life, school performance, and work. It’s about seeing the full picture and understanding how ADHD influences different aspects of your world.
    • Adult ADHD Clinical Diagnostic Scale (ACDS): This tool is designed specifically for adults. Through a structured interview, we identify ADHD traits in grown-ups and make sure the support we offer matches your life stage.
  • Wender Utah Rating Scale (WURS): This one looks at your childhood, helping us spot early signs of ADHD. It’s especially useful if you’re seeking a retrospective diagnosis as an adult. Check out the research behind why it’s so effective.

Why Our Approach Matters

Testing isn’t just about gathering data—it’s about getting the right answers and creating a plan that makes sense for your life. Here’s why my personalized approach to ADHD testing makes a difference:

    • Accurate Diagnosis: By using multiple assessment tools, we create a thorough profile of your ADHD experience, reducing the chances of missing important details. The result? A diagnosis you can trust.
    • Tailored Recommendations: Since no two people are the same, your treatment shouldn’t be either. After testing, I provide customized recommendations based on your specific needs, whether that includes therapy, medication, or other resources.
  • Empowerment and Self-Advocacy: Understanding your ADHD profile is key to advocating for yourself at work, school, or in relationships. It’s all about empowering you to make informed choices and live your life confidently.

At Enlitens Counseling, ADHD testing isn’t just about finding answers—it’s about helping you feel understood and giving you the tools you need to thrive. Curious to learn more about our approach? You can dive into research on how ADHD assessments work or explore multi-source assessments.

More Than a Diagnosis: Supporting Your Path Forward

Getting an ADHD diagnosis isn’t just about having a label—it’s the first step toward truly understanding yourself and figuring out how to make life a little smoother. At Enlitens Counseling, I’m here for you well beyond that diagnosis. Whether it’s figuring out accommodations for work or school, managing a new diagnosis, or even re-examining past misdiagnoses, I’ve got your back every step of the way.

How I Continue to Support You After Your Diagnosis

So, what happens after you’ve received your ADHD diagnosis? Here’s how we’ll continue to work together as you navigate life with ADHD:

    • Accommodations for School or Work: If you need support at school or work, I can provide the documentation to help you secure accommodations like extra time for exams or adjustments in the workplace. We’ll work together to help you advocate for yourself with confidence, ensuring you get the support you need.
    • Guidance for Newly Diagnosed Young Adults: Getting diagnosed as a young adult can be life-changing. Suddenly, everything makes a bit more sense, right? We’ll work together on building routines, managing day-to-day challenges, and adapting to this newfound clarity. Whether you’re starting college, a new job, or just navigating life, I’ll help you build strategies that work for you.
    • Re-examining Misdiagnoses in Girls: ADHD is often misdiagnosed or missed entirely in girls, with many receiving labels like Autism instead. If you’ve been through this, we’ll work together to re-evaluate your diagnosis so you can finally get the right support for your needs and experiences.
    • Practical Strategies for Thriving with ADHD: An ADHD diagnosis isn’t a stopping point—it’s a stepping stone. We’ll work on strategies tailored to your lifestyle, whether it’s finding focus at work, creating study routines, or simply managing your time in a way that feels less stressful. ADHD isn’t a barrier—it’s just a different way of thinking, and I’m here to help you embrace it.
  • Ongoing Support and Coaching: Managing ADHD is a lifelong journey, and I’ll be there with you through every phase. Whether it’s regular check-ins, therapy sessions, or just having a space to talk through challenges, you’ll always have the support you need as life evolves.

Why This Matters

Understanding your ADHD diagnosis can open doors—to accommodations, personal growth, and a better way to see yourself. I’m here to make sure you feel equipped, supported, and confident every step of the way, whether it’s advocating for yourself at school or work or building a life that’s uniquely yours.

Understanding ADHD Assessments: Common Questions

What specific tests are included in the ADHD assessment?
We utilize a combination of evidence-based tools, including the Brown EF/A Scales, Connors Rating Scales, Vanderbilt ADHD Rating Scales, and the Adult ADHD Clinical Diagnostic Scale (ACDS). These tests assess various aspects of attention, executive functioning, and related areas. We may also incorporate additional questionnaires or gather feedback from relevant individuals in your life to gain a comprehensive understanding of your unique profile.
We understand that ADHD manifests differently across the lifespan. Our assessments are carefully selected and adapted based on your age and developmental level, ensuring accurate and meaningful results. For instance, we use specific versions of rating scales designed for children, adolescents, or adults.
The Brown EF/A Scales is a comprehensive tool that evaluates executive function and attention-related difficulties. It focuses on six key areas: Activation, Focus, Effort, Emotion, Memory, and Action. This assessment helps us understand your specific challenges and strengths in these areas, which are often impacted by ADHD.
The Connors Rating Scales and Vanderbilt ADHD Rating Scales are questionnaires completed by you, your parents/caregivers, or teachers (if applicable). They provide valuable insights into your ADHD symptoms and behaviors across different settings, such as home and school/work.
The ACDS is a semi-structured clinical interview specifically designed for assessing ADHD symptoms in adults. It helps us gather detailed information about your current experiences and challenges related to ADHD.

The assessment process typically involves an initial consultation and a testing session. The duration can vary depending on individual needs and the specific assessments used, but you can generally expect it to take a few hours.

You’ll engage in various activities and tasks designed to assess your attention, memory, problem-solving skills, and other cognitive functions. You may also be asked to complete questionnaires or provide feedback about your experiences. The environment is designed to be comfortable and supportive, allowing you to perform your best.
We’ll schedule a feedback session to discuss your results in detail, explain any diagnoses, and provide personalized recommendations for treatment and support. We’ll also provide you with a comprehensive written report summarizing the findings and recommendations.
Insurance coverage for ADHD testing varies depending on your specific plan. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm your coverage and any out-of-pocket costs. We can also provide you with a superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
It’s completely normal to feel some anxiety about the testing process. We’ll create a calm and supportive environment, and we’re here to answer any questions you may have along the way.
The cost of the ADHD assessment is $250. We offer flexible payment plans to accommodate your needs.
We’re conveniently located in South St. Louis County, just over a mile from Mercy South Hospital and Highway 270 on Tesson Ferry Road. Easy to find, even if your GPS is having a meltdown.
