My Experience Speaks for Me

A headshot of Liz Wooten, a smiling therapist with warm brown eyes and shoulder-length brown hair. She is wearing a professional blouse and has a friendly expression.

I’ve been a Board-Certified Counselor for over four years, with a Master’s in Clinical Counseling from Webster University. My work has been all about understanding the brain, especially within the neurodiverse community. Right now, I’m taking it even further by pursuing a doctorate in Behavioral Neuroscience.

But let’s get real—degrees are only part of the story. With nearly 14 years of hands-on experience, combined with my own neurodiverse lived experience, I’ve gained a deep understanding of what truly helps. I began my mental health journey supporting kids and families in the Autistic community, both one-on-one and in group settings. That’s where I discovered my passion for helping people embrace their uniqueness, rather than trying to fit into neurotypical molds.

This led me to career counseling, focusing on empowering Autistic individuals to thrive in their professional lives. As I transitioned into my role as a therapist, my focus remained on neurodiversity and trauma. During the height of COVID-19, I worked in ERs, providing crisis support across diverse populations, including those in neurodiverse communities. I don’t just know the theory—I’ve lived it.

If you’re looking for someone who understands, who’s been there, and who’s ready to help you move forward, I’m here. Together, we can make the changes that truly matter to you.

Empowerment, Not Just Acceptance: Skills to Thrive

Acceptance is just the first step. My goal is to help you not only feel accepted but empowered to live boldly and authentically. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, you might face unique challenges, but those challenges can become opportunities for growth, self-discovery, and resilience. I’m here to walk with you through that process, helping you embrace every part of yourself.

How LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy Helps You Thrive:

  • Challenge Internalized Stigma: So many of us have internalized negative messages from society. It can be tough to shake off those harmful beliefs, but together, we’ll identify and challenge them. We’ll work on replacing that inner critic with self-love, confidence, and pride in who you are.
  • Navigate Microaggressions and Discrimination: Dealing with microaggressions and discrimination can be draining. It’s hard to constantly stand up for yourself, and that’s where we come in. I’ll help you set healthy boundaries, respond in ways that protect your mental health, and make sure you leave our sessions feeling strong and grounded.

  • Celebrate Intersectionality: You’re not just one identity—you’re a beautiful mix of experiences, culture, gender, and orientation. Therapy with me is about honoring every part of who you are. We’ll make sure all the layers of your identity are seen, valued, and celebrated, so you can fully embrace yourself.
  • Build a Strong Support Network: No one should have to navigate life alone. I’ll help you connect with communities that uplift and support you, whether it’s local groups, online spaces, or LGBTQIA+ events. Knowing that you’re part of a bigger, caring network can make all the difference.

Therapy with me isn’t just about acceptance—it’s about empowerment. I’m here to help you build the confidence, strength, and resilience you need to live your most authentic life. You deserve to thrive, and I’m ready to support you on that journey.
