Quality Counseling That Fits Your budget in St. Louis.

Hi, I'm Liz! (Your Therapist, Not Your Judge)

A headshot of Liz Wooten, a smiling therapist with warm brown eyes and shoulder-length brown hair. She is wearing a professional blouse and has a friendly expression.

Hey there! I’m Liz Wooten, a Licensed Professional Counselor based in St. Louis. If you’ve landed here, you’re already taking a huge, brave step toward improving your well-being, and I want you to know, I’m really proud of you for that. Starting therapy can feel a little overwhelming—trust me, I get it—but my goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, heard, and supported. Think of me as your mental health co-pilot, ready to navigate life’s ups and downs with you. Together, we’ll explore, grow, and maybe even laugh along the way!

I’ve been working in mental health for over 14 years, and my journey began in case management. I spent years helping individuals and families tackle life’s toughest challenges, access vital resources, and advocate for their needs. That experience showed me just how powerful having the right support can be, and it’s what ultimately led me here—to you.

I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling from Webster University and my bachelor’s degree from St. Louis University. My education gave me the tools to approach therapy in a compassionate and client-centered way, and it’s the foundation I build on every day in our sessions together.

One of the most life-changing experiences for me was providing crisis intervention in hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. That time taught me so much about resilience, the need for accessible mental health care, and the importance of human connection in the healing process. It was a humbling reminder of how vital empathy and understanding are in our work together.

I’ve also spent a significant part of my career working with the neurodivergent community. Whether it’s helping clients develop social skills, work through emotional learning strategies, or providing support for job skills training, creating a neurodiversity-affirming space is something I’m deeply passionate about. Every person’s journey is different, and I’m committed to making sure you feel seen and valued for who you are.

In addition to that, I’ve worked with underprivileged families and indigenous communities, advocating for their access to resources and mental health support. It’s important to me that no matter your background, you feel empowered to take control of your mental health journey.

My approach to therapy is collaborative and person-centered. Therapy works best when it feels like a partnership, and that’s exactly how we’ll approach it. We’ll dig into your story, uncover your strengths, and figure out what works best for you. Whether you’re managing anxiety, working through ADHD, or navigating life as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, I’ll be right there, walking beside you through it all.

Therapy with me? It’s a space for self-exploration, growth, and yes, even a little humor! We’ll work through the hard stuff and celebrate your wins—big and small—along the way. My ultimate goal is to help you live a life that feels true to who you are—bold, authentic, and unapologetically YOU.

The Human Behind the Therapist

The Human Behind the Therapist

Beyond the therapy room, I’m just like you—filled with my own quirks and passions. I believe connecting as humans first is key to building trust and creating a space where you can be your authentic self. Here’s a little peek into the person I am when I’m not in a therapy session:

My Happy Place

You’ll often find me in the kitchen baking up a storm or experimenting with new recipes. I absolutely love discovering hidden gems in the St. Louis food scene, whether it’s a hole-in-the-wall diner or a chic new café. For me, food is an adventure—it’s where I unwind and explore creativity. And honestly, nothing beats sharing a home-baked treat with the people I care about.

My Passions

Outside of work, I’m a huge fan of the Dallas Mavericks. If there’s a game on, you can bet I’m cheering them on! When I’m not watching basketball, I’m usually tending to my growing collection of plants (yes, I’m a proud plant mom!) or getting lost in a thought-provoking podcast. Photography is another passion of mine—I love capturing moments, especially when I’m spending time outdoors. The natural beauty around St. Louis is something I try to soak in as much as possible. It’s how I recharge and find balance.

My Values

At the heart of everything I do are my values: authenticity, compassion, and the belief in the power of human connection. These values guide how I show up for you in therapy. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe to express yourself fully, explore your vulnerabilities, and celebrate your strengths. Together, we’ll work on embracing who you are, helping you live a life that feels true and unapologetically yours.

If you want to know more or are ready to start working together, feel free to reach out here. Let’s team up and create a brighter, more fulfilling future for you!

Get to Know Liz Better: Q&A Time!

What inspired you to become a mental health therapist?
The idea of helping people learn about themselves and improve their lives, sparked by the character Sweets from the show “Bones,” initially drew me to this field. I also pursued a Master’s in Criminal Justice, further fueling my passion for understanding human behavior and advocating for those in need.
Witnessing those “aha!” moments when something clicks for a client and they gain a deeper understanding of themselves is incredibly rewarding. It’s a privilege to be part of someone’s journey towards self-discovery and growth.

I’m a bit of a multi-passionate individual! I love baking, cheering on my favorite NBA team, exploring the St. Louis food scene, capturing life’s beauty through photography, nurturing my plant collection, and spending time outdoors. I also enjoy reading and listening to podcasts to keep my mind engaged and inspired.

The movie “Encanto” beautifully portrays generational trauma and the pressure to mask one’s true self to meet expectations. It’s a powerful reminder that we all have hidden struggles and that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
It’s okay not to be okay. Reaching out for help is a courageous step, and there’s no shame in prioritizing your mental well-being. Remember, you’re not alone, and support is available.
I strive to live authentically and embrace my true self, just as I encourage my clients to do. I believe in being transparent and sharing my own experiences, even my love for metalcore music, to create a more relatable and genuine therapeutic connection.
I have 5 dogs. Journaling is my favorite mindfulness activity. (False – body scans are my go-to!) A rock star gave the toast at my wedding.
I’m a bit of a chicken sandwich connoisseur! Thanks to my neurodiversity and love for exploring St. Louis, I’ve tried countless chicken sandwiches in the area. My current favorite? Hi Pointe Drive-In!

I love using pop culture references and metaphors to make therapy more relatable and engaging. Whether it’s comparing emotions to Taylor Swift songs or using D&D strategies for decision-making, I’ll tailor my approach to your interests and create a fun, personalized experience.

Therapy is a collaborative process, and the therapeutic relationship is crucial. If you ever feel like we’re not a good fit, please don’t hesitate to let me know. We can explore adjusting our approach or help you find a therapist who better aligns with your needs and goals.

We’ll work together to identify your goals, which can range from reducing anxiety to improving communication skills or exploring your identity. We’ll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our approach as needed to ensure you’re moving towards your desired outcomes.
We’re conveniently located in South St. Louis County, just over a mile from Mercy South Hospital and Highway 270 on Tesson Ferry Road. Easy to find, even if your GPS is having a meltdown.
